In the Fall of 2012, Dave and Kathie Schiedel met Cavin Harper, President and CEO of Christian Grandparenting Network headquartered in Colorado Springs, CO. Our hearts were captured by Cavin’s passion to convince grandparents to actively pursue intentionally leaving a legacy of faith to their grandchildren. GrandCamps, a special time away in a camp setting designed for grandparents and grandchildren, arrested our imagination. At the time, our first grandchild was only two years old, but a dream began to take place in our hearts for others in Canada to have an opportunity to participate in such a unique camp. In June 2018, we held our first GrandCamp at River’s Edge Bible Camp in Cremona, AB. God had given birth to our dreams, but the true background to this story is one of prayer, passion, and persistence in following God where He would lead us.

As we became convinced of the need to encourage and equip grandparents to engage in discipling their grandchildren, we began to pray about forming a leadership team to serve with us. We contacted several people and asked them to come away with us to a weekend Prayer Advance in April 2017. We believe that prayer is the birthplace of ministry (Acts 1:14) and it was at this meeting God touched our hearts. We were ‘all in’ to follow God’s lead as we began the grandparent’s movement in Canada. From our Prayer Advance came the beginning of a monthly Grandparents at Prayer ([email protected]) in May 2017, a Courageous Grandparenting Seminar in the Fall of 2017, and our first GrandCamp in June 2018. The grandparent’s movement began to grow as grandparents, pastor’s and church leaders in Alberta and British Columbia began to catch a vision. In the fall of 2018, Dave resigned from his pastoral role, and with the blessing of Christian Grandparenting Network-US, our Advisory Board began the process of establishing Christian Grandparenting Network Canada. In April 2019 we received non-profit charitable status as an agent under the public foundation umbrella of Great Commission Foundation in Abbotsford BC. We are trusting the grandparent movement will impact this great country of ours – the Dominion of Canada – as grandparents rise and answer the call of God to leave a legacy of faith to the generations that follow.
